The significance of Hysteric Glamour holds a historical weight: the brand emerged as a leading force in counterculture within the Harajuku style. Alongside Hiroshi Fujiwara's Fragment, it was among the pioneers in developing a "rebellious" streetwear concept, echoing the sentiments and aspirations of Japan's emerging generations. This groundbreaking movement laid the foundation for subsequent brands like Undercover, BAPE, and Number (N)ine, which emerged about a decade later. Founder Nobuhiko Kitamura's provocative work places him alongside fashion luminaries such as Vivienne Westwood. Moreover, Kitamura was among the earliest figures to bridge the gap between Japanese street culture and Western society, spreading the allure of Harajuku aesthetics worldwide.

A striking archival piece from Issey Miyake’s Pleats Please collection, these wide-leg trousers reimagine pleated fabric with a layered construction. The lightweight turquoise polyester is permanently pleated using Miyake’s pioneering technique, but here, the fabric is arranged in overlapping panels that add depth and movement within the leg itself. The result is a silhouette that shifts between fluidity and structure, wide and architectural when standing still, then alive with motion as the wearer moves.
